There are a number of ways in which companies can partner with KallOut to promote their applications, websites and/or brands. These partnership opportunities fall into four categories:

1. KallOut Distribution Partnership
2. App Enhancer Partnership
3. Content Provider Partnership
4. Site Enhancer Partnership

Examples of each of these types of partnerships are described below along with the pricing models and rate cards for each.

KallOut Distribution Partnership

KallOut requires a download to the user’s system in order to enable a new way of searching using only the mouse. Once KallOut is downloaded it will run in the background on the user’s system and offer up search suggestions which we call BestGuess™ menu items. Some of these menu items can be sponsored by 3rd party advertisers. For example, if you select the text MSFT, you might receive Gold Star menu suggestions for a stock trading site. If the user clicks on that menu suggestion, a Cost Per Click fee is collected by KallOut’s ad provider and KallOut receives a portion of these fees. The amount of these search-based advertising fees varies per search term and the total amount earned by KallOut for each download of the application varies based upon how often the user interacts with KallOut and selects one of the sponsored menu items.

To reach our goal of delivering search in context to millions of users, we need to have companies partner in the promotion, distribution and viral spreading of KallOut. For example, existing companies which have millions of downloads/installs may be interested in offering their users the opportunity to co-install KallOut at the same time they are downloading new versions of their applications. Their motivation for doing so is the chance to receive a portion of the ad revenue that flows from a user that they caused to download and use KallOut. App Enhancer Partnership

An App Enhancer is KallOut’s name for the portion of the KallOut download that is responsible for extending and enhancing the functionality of a traditional Windows application with the search functionality that KallOut provides. These App Enhancers are implemented as Windows DLLs and they run in the background and alert the KallOut client application whenever the user makes a text selection in a document of the particular application that they are responsible for enhancing. Examples of current App Enhancers inside of KallOut are the AEOutlook, AEWord, AEExcel, AEPowerPoint, AEAcrobat, AEWordPad, AENotepad, AEFirefox and AEIE.

While we have written the first set of App Enhancers for some of the most popular Windows apps, our long term goal is to support just about any Windows app. In order to do this, we need to have companies partner in the development, integration and support of these Windows apps. For example, Intuit might be interested in having their QuickBooks application seamlessly support KallOut’s search capabilities. In support of this, KallOut offers the following:

Content Provider Partnership

A Content Provider is KallOut’s name for the portion of the KallOut server-side code that accesses a particular web site and provides interesting content to the user in response to a given search term. The Content Providers are normally some type of vertical search engine that delivers a list of results which can then be clicked into by the user for further perusal. These Content Providers are implemented as services that run on the KallOut servers and interact with API’s that certain web sites provide. Examples of current Content Providers inside of KallOut are Google Search, Wikipedia, eBay, Flickr, YouTube, Yahoo News, Microsoft Virtual Earth, LinkedIn, etc.

While we have written the first set of Content Provider services for some of the best-of-breed sites on the web in categories such as Search, Reference, Shopping, News, Images, Video, Location and People, our long term goal is to support just about any useful destination site with searchable content. In order to do this, we need to have companies partner in the development, integration and support of these Content Provider services. For example, Lexis/Nexis might be interested in having their law databases seamlessly accessible via a customized KallOut experience. In support of this, KallOut offers the following:

Site Enhancer Partnership

A Site Enhancer is KallOut’s name for the portion of the KallOut download that is responsible for extending and enhancing the functionality of a specific destination web site with the search functionality that KallOut provides. These Site Enhancers are implemented as Windows DLLs and they run in the background and notice when the user has launched a specific web site that has links which KallOut’s client application can enhance. An example of a current Site Enhancer inside of KallOut is the Facebook.com Site Enhancer which currently notices when the user hovers over a link in the Profile Page area and shows the KallOut context menu of selections that allow the user to get more information about their friends’ interests.

While we have written only one Site Enhancers so far, our long term goal is to use this capability of KallOut to enhance the functionality of all of the top destination sites (e.g., MySpace, LinkedIn, eBay, AOL, Amazon, Wall Street Journal, New York Times, etc.). In order to do this, we need to have companies partner in the development, integration and support of these Site Enhancers. For example, the Los Angeles Times might be interested in having their a Site Enhancer for their LATimes.com site that seamlessly adds KallOut’s search capabilities.
